چکیده

1 Abstract— Differences in the electronic transport properties of two polymorphs of bulk silicon due to the crystallographic direction are investigated theoretically. The calculations are performed in two steps: first an optimized geometry for two polymorphs of silicon (cubic diamond and hexagonal diamond) is obtained using DFT calculations, and then the transport relations of four directions (<001>, <110> and <111> for diamond and <001> for hexagonal) are obtained using NEGF approach. SIESTA and TranSIESTA simulation codes are used in the calculations correspondingly. The electrodes are chosen to be the same as the central region where transport is studied, eliminating current quantization effects due to contacts and focusing the electronic transport study to the intrinsic structure of the material. By varying chemical potential in the electrode regions, an I-V curve is traced for each particular configuration. Conductance in silicon bulk shows certain dependence in the crystallographic direction, in agreement with the different behavior of silicon nanowires due to their growth direction. The study of electronic and transport properties in silicon nanowires is interesting because they are promising candidates as bridging pieces in nanoelectronics.

Structure and electronic properties of single–walled zigzag BN and B3C2N3 nanotubes using first-principles methods

The structure and the electronic properties of single-walled zigzag BN and B3C2N3 nanotubes (n, 0; n=4–10) were investigated using first-principles calculations based on a density functional theory. A plane–wave basis set with periodic boundary conditions in conjunction with Vanderbilt ultrasoft pseudo-potential was employed. The energy gap of ZB3C<su...

First-principles study on the electronic structure of Thiophenbithiol (TBT) on Au(100) surface

First principle calculations were performed using Density functional theory within the local spin density approximation (LSDA) to understand the electronic properties of Au(100)+TBT system and compare the results with Au(100) and bulk Au properties. Band structure, the total DOS and charge density for these materials are calculated. We found that the HOMO for Au(100)+TBT becomes broader than Au...

We have performed a density functional theory investigation on the structural and electronic properties of pristine and Nitrogen-doped TiO2 anatase nanoparticles as the adsorbents for removal and degradation of hydrazine molecules in the environment. We have presented the most stable adsorption configurations and examined the interaction of hydrazine molecule with these doped and undoped nanopa...
